Orientation Course

Slug Orientation is the required next step for all new students and consists of completing the online Orientation Course during the summer, meeting deadlines, and full participation in Fall Welcome Week (maybe as early as 7 days before the first day of classes- check the college move-in schedule for the exact date). Welcome Week typically occurs a week before instruction begins in late September.

The Orientation *Canvas course links are sent directly to the student’s UCSC email account.

*Canvas is the learning management system that students will use to access the Orientation Course and classes throughout their whole academic career.

Students must complete the Orientation Course process and submit all required official test scores and transcripts by each deadline in order to receive a class enrollment appointment date.

The Orientation Course is the student’s first university course. This one-unit course is required and counts toward graduation. The student will be enrolled in the course automatically in June. The Orientation Course tuition of $279 will be added to the student's account as a "Summer Session Course Fee" and is due in August. Students may be eligible for financial aid. If a student qualifies for the orientation grant, the full $279 grant amount will be posted as a credit directly to their student account.

International Students
Students in F-1 or J-1 status should register for International Student Orientation through iGlobal (Frosh or Exchange & Transfer, as appropriate).

International Families
Please plan to attend the International Family Orientation. It will be a great opportunity to learn about how to make payments, to meet faculty and staff, and to hear about your student’s life at UC Santa Cruz.
