We are excited to welcome your student to UC Santa Cruz this summer!

Summer Edge Move-in

Edge students move in on Friday, July 26. Your student cannot move in early, so make sure you plan to arrive on Friday For Transfer Edge, living on-campus is optional, so disregard move-in info if you are commuting.

WHAT TO BRING?

For five weeks, students shouldn’t bring too much. Remember, their housing includes a complete meal plan. Here are suggestions from the housing office on What to Bring.

GETTING HERE

You can drop your student off on move-in day. Housing will contact them with move-in times, details, and maps. The campus will have lots of move-in signage, and all our staff will be there to greet you. We’ll provide you with a temporary parking pass to use during move-in.

If your student is driving themselves and plans to keep their car on campus for the summer, we recommend they order their parking pass in advance online.

Airline: If flying into a local airport, students are responsible for their transportation to campus. We recommend the following providers: Early Bird Airport Shuttle, Santa Cruz Shuttles, and Echo’s Airport Express.

Metro: If they are taking the bus, the Metro has stops around campus. Here is their schedule and more info https://www.scmtd.com/en/

CLASSES

Studentscan change their enrollment in their portal up until the add deadline. Your student can email summeredge@ucsc.edu for summer course enrollment support.

UC SHIP

Your student is required to have medical insurance this summer. They will automatically be enrolled in and billed for summer UC SHIP insurance unless they complete the waiver process. If they already have equivalent insurance, the deadline is July 1 to submit materials to waive out. The late waiver deadline is July 16 with a late fee if accepted. CANCELATION

If your student no longer plans to attend, there are several steps we need to take to cancel you. Please have them email summeredge@ucsc.edu asap if their plans change.

MOVE OUT

Move out is Saturday, August 31. If their classes end and they want to leave earlier, they can arrange with their Residence Assistant (RA) to complete their room check-out process early.

If needed, Summer Edge students are welcome to stay in the residence halls after the program ends! Those who need continuous housing between the end of the Edge program and the start of the fall quarter can apply for transitional housing (studenthousing.ucsc.edu).
