We’re excited to welcome you to UC Santa Cruz for a meaningful weekend of connection, discovery, and campus life. Whether you’re sharing a meal, attending a workshop, or exploring the redwoods, Family Weekend offers something for everyone—and a chance to experience life as a Banana Slug through your student’s perspective.

Friday, November 7
Friday marks the exciting start of UC Santa Cruz Family Weekend! Families arriving on Friday can check in and register at Woodstock’s Pizza, a perfect spot to grab a bite while connecting with other families. Afterward, you have the freedom to explore the vibrant downtown Santa Cruz, venture to other scenic areas of the city, or meet up with your student and embark on your adventure together. It’s the perfect way to ease into the weekend and get a feel for the local community.
Registration and check-in
Time: 1–8 p.m.
Location: Woodstock’s Pizza, 710 Front Street, Santa Cruz
Kick off UC Santa Cruz Family Weekend on Friday by meeting up with other families. Enjoy some local Santa Cruz cuisine before heading out to explore the vibrant downtown. It’s the perfect opportunity to collect your materials early and explore the local shops, cafes, and attractions that make our coastal city unique.
Downtown parking is available for a nominal fee at the Soquel Front Garage (Soquel & Front Street) and the River Front Garage (River St). Guests should not park in the Trader Joe’s & Woodstock’s lot, which is very small and usually full.
Men’s basketball game
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: West Field House
Get ready to cheer on your Slugs as Men’s Basketball takes on the Redlands Bulldogs. Pack the stands, bring the energy, and show that unmistakable Slug spirit—let’s make some noise for our team!
First Fridays in Santa Cruz
Time: 7–9 p.m.
Location: Various locations around Santa Cruz
First Fridays in Santa Cruz is a monthly art event that showcases local creativity and culture. On the first Friday of each month, galleries, shops, and cafes across Santa Cruz open their doors for extended hours, offering free art exhibits, live music, and community gatherings. It’s a vibrant, walkable celebration of the local arts scene—perfect for exploring downtown and connecting with the creative spirit of Santa Cruz.
Saturday, November 8
Saturday is the heart of UC Santa Cruz Family Weekend, featuring a packed schedule of engaging opportunities. Attend learning sessions led by our faculty and staff, where you’ll gain insights into your student’s academic journey and campus resources. Connect with other families and meet with staff from UCSC’s colleges to learn more about the support available to your student. In the evening, join us on the field for a night under the stars. It’s a day full of learning, connection, and celebration!

Location: Enjoy lunch at one of our many on-campus dining locations, visit one of our special Family Weekend food trucks, or head into town to experience one of Santa Cruz’s finest restaurants.

Time: 4–8 p.m.
Location: Take part in one of the many evening activities happening on campus, including s’mores under the stars and more.
Sunday, November 9
Wrap up the weekend with the Banana Slug Family Fun Run, Donuts with DSAS, and catching the men’s basketball team in action.
Banana Slug Family Fun Run/Walk
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: East Field
Lace up your sneakers and start your day with a scenic, fun run/walk through the beautiful East Field and select campus trails! This non-competitive run/walk is a great way for families to enjoy the natural beauty of UC Santa Cruz together, with ocean views, redwood-lined paths, and plenty of Slug spirit along the way. All ages and fitness levels are welcome—run, jog, or stroll at your own pace! No advance sign-up necessary.
Donuts with DSAS
Time: 10: 30 a.m. — Noon
Location: Quarry Plaza
As Family Weekend comes to a close on Sunday, it’s the perfect time to say farewell to your student and wrap up the weekend on a sweet note. Join us for a casual morning gathering with the Division of Student Affairs, where you can enjoy donuts, coffee, and good company before heading home. It’s a wonderful way to connect with staff and other families one last time before your departure!
Men’s Basketball Game
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Location: Kaiser Permanente Arena, Downtown Santa Cruz
