Family Weekend 2025
November 7–9
Experience UC Santa Cruz through your student’s eyes during Family Weekend 2025—a three-day celebration of connection, discovery, and community. From November 7–9, parents, families, and supporters are invited to explore the campus your student calls home, meet the people who support their journey, and immerse yourselves in the vibrant life of Banana Slug Nation.
Hosted each fall quarter, Family Weekend offers engaging sessions with faculty and staff, social gatherings with other families, and opportunities to experience both campus and the broader Santa Cruz community. Whether you’re joining a redwoods walk, attending a showcase, or simply soaking in the views, this weekend is all about making meaningful memories together.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there a cost to participate?
The cost to participate in Family Weekend helps cover the expenses associated with organizing the event, including food, activities, workshops, and special programming. These fees ensure we can offer a memorable and well-planned experience for families while maintaining the quality of the events and resources provided.
Will the event sell out?
Due to space and safety limitations on our campus, hosting large events can be challenging. Interest in Family Weekend has far exceeded the available space on campus, and the event is likely to sell out.
Unfortunately, due to space limitations, we won’t be able to accommodate additional registrations. However, we encourage you to join the waitlist, as spots may open closer to the event. Be sure to explore other ways to engage with campus, such as visiting during different times of the year or utilizing online resources.
Is there a fee for canceling my registration?
There is no fee to cancel your registration. You can initiate the refund process by emailing us at families@ucsc.edu.
What should I wear?
Santa Cruz casual! Proudly wear your UCSC swag and be prepared with layers, as mornings and evenings can be cool with warmer temps in the middle of the day.
Who is invited to attend?
All parents and family members of current UCSC students are welcome to attend. But each guest must be registered in advance and have purchased the necessary ticket.
Can my student join me at the programs?
While your student can join you for Family Weekend programs, please note that the majority of sessions are designed to help you support your student more effectively and may not be as engaging for your student. Family Weekend is designed to allow you to explore campus, connect with other families, and spend time with your student!
Are Emotional Support Animals/Service Animals allowed on campus?
Please visit Animals on Campus to learn more about campus policies on domestic and service animals.
Is there guest WiFi on campus?
UCSC-Guest is an open-access, unencrypted wireless network designed for guests who require temporary Internet access while visiting UCSC.
Can I stay with my student?
The housing contract allows students to have a visitor stay in their room, subject to certain restrictions. Please make sure students speak with their roommate(s) about guests. Residents are responsible for their guests’ actions at all times and should review their housing terms and conditions.
How do I travel to Santa Cruz and where do I stay?
To travel to Santa Cruz, most families fly into San Jose International Airport (about 45 minutes away) or San Francisco International Airport (about 1.5 hours away). From there, you can rent a car or use public transportation to reach the city. For accommodations, we recommend booking early as hotels fill up quickly. A list of local hotels offering special family weekend pricing will be made available soon.
Where do I park?
Information on parking for Family Weekend will be available soon.
