Living on and off campus

If your student indicated a preference for university housing during the admission acceptance process, then they should:

  • If they are frosh] expect to be notified via email in mid-July of their room type, and in late-August of their specific room and roommate assignment.
  • If they are transfers] check their UCSC email for time-sensitive information about applying for university housing. Only students who indicated a preference for university housing during the admissions process, and submit all forms and required fees by stated deadlines, will be eligible for a housing guarantee. (This applies to transfer students only)

Students whose disabilities substantially impact their ability to live in the standard housing environment may request housing accommodations (e.g. an accessible room, debunked bed, visual fire alarm, etc.). Requests for housing accommodations are submitted through the UCSC Disability Resource Center.

Students whose disability requires the use of a Service or Support Animal and plan to live in university housing must request approval by submitting documentation to the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Service or support animals may not reside in university housing without prior registration.

Living Off-Campus

Students planning to live off-campus while attending UCSC are encouraged to utilize the services and resources of the UCSC Community Rentals Office. Community Rentals is a student's best resource for finding rental housing in the Santa Cruz area.

The first step to any off-campus housing search is to complete the online Renters Workshop. In addition to learning how to optimize a rental search and living experience, students also receive a certificate of completion to add to any rental application packet. Landlords know that educated tenants make better tenants and many prefer or only accept those who complete this workshop.
